Please read these Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) carefully before using the Elo-X mobile application (the “App”) operated by Bhan AS (“we”, “us”, or “our”).
By creating an account or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
1. Description of the Service
Elo-X is a mobile application that lets users log real-life match results (such as chess, table tennis, and other competitive activities) and tracks skill ratings using the Glicko-2 rating system. Users can log direct matches or create and join groups for official or custom activities, including individual, team, and ranked-placement formats. Participants may be invited through QR codes or links and may be asked to review, confirm, decline, correct or cancel a submitted result. Supported activities may also offer solo/shared rounds, per-hole or total scoring, courses and bowling centers with saved setup versions, and tournaments with schedules, entries, rounds, standings and organizer/referee controls. Solo rounds are unrated; competitive rating effects depend on the activity and event settings. Ratings and statistics are used to maintain global and group leaderboards visible to relevant users.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the App, or older if the law where you live requires a higher minimum age. If you are under the age at which you can agree to these Terms or consent to relevant data processing on your own under applicable law, your parent or legal guardian must authorize your use of the App. We do not offer the App to children under 13, even with parental authorization.
3. Account Responsibilities
You are responsible for:
- Keeping your account credentials secure and not sharing them with others.
- All activity that occurs under your account.
- Choosing a username that does not impersonate others or violate third-party rights.
- Understanding that your username is public within Elo-X and identifies your public profile, official ratings, and confirmed official matches.
- Notifying us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.
You may only create one account per person. Accounts are personal and non-transferable.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Log false or fraudulent match results.
- Manipulate ratings or leaderboards through collusion, match-fixing, or other artificial means.
- Use the App to harass, abuse, or harm other users.
- Submit unlawful, abusive, misleading, or infringing usernames, profile information, suggestions, feedback, or other content.
- Create misleading or abusive group names, activity names, rules, invitations, or match data.
- Include another person’s personal data, or sensitive or confidential information, in a username, group/tournament/team/place name, public setup comment, screenshot or other submitted content without authorization and a necessary purpose.
- Attempt to scrape, disrupt, gain unauthorized access to, or reverse-engineer the App or its backend systems, except where applicable law expressly permits it.
- Use the App for any commercial purpose without our prior written consent.
- Upload or transmit malicious code, spam, or unlawful content.
We reserve the right to investigate suspected violations and take appropriate action, including account suspension or termination.
5. Profiles, Matches, and Groups
Your username, generated avatar, official ratings, and any city and country you choose to add are visible to signed-in Elo-X users. Your confirmed official matches are also part of your profile and may show the activity, variant, date, participants, result, scores, and rating changes. This information allows official matches and leaderboards to be attributed to the correct players.
Groups and group matches are intended for their members and relevant match participants. Group names, custom activity names, rules, settings, and other group content are supplied by users and may not be accurate or endorsed by us. Access and our handling of official, group, and match information are explained in the Privacy Policy.
Standalone solo rounds are private to their owner; completed group-linked solo rounds share the group audience. Course/center setup data, publication review and access memberships have separate visibility rules from match results. Publishing a place can expose retained setup versions and contributor attribution to signed-in users. Public setups require administrative review, and an approved setup cannot necessarily be made private again. Do not submit home addresses or confidential place information for public publication.
Tournament organizers are responsible for selecting and communicating rules, schedules, entry conditions and rating settings. Authorized organizers/referees may manage attendance, publish rounds, resolve disputes, record interventions or cancel an event within the App’s controls. Review event rules before joining. Shared organizer roles may carry equal management rights; intervention and correction records preserve relevant history. The App does not guarantee the accuracy of participant submissions or an event organizer’s decisions.
6. Rating System and Leaderboards
Ratings are calculated automatically using the Glicko-2 algorithm applied server-side. Global and group ratings may use different activity, variant, participant, or group scopes. We do not guarantee the accuracy, fairness, or fitness for any particular purpose of ratings displayed. The rating system is provided for entertainment and informal competition purposes only.
Rating status and leaderboard inclusion depend on the applicable activity, eligibility rules and group settings. Unrated solo rounds do not affect competitive ratings.
We reserve the right to adjust, recalculate, or reset ratings at any time, including to correct errors, address abuse, or change the rating methodology.
We reserve the right to remove matches, adjust ratings, or restrict accounts where we reasonably believe fraudulent or abusive activity has occurred.
7. User Content
You retain ownership of content you submit. By submitting a username, profile information, group/tournament/team/place name, course/center setup or version comment, activity rules, match/round result or confirmation, suggestion, feedback, optional screenshot, or other content, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, process, and display that content only as necessary to operate, secure, support, and improve the App and associated services. You represent that you have the right to submit the content and that it does not infringe any third-party rights.
8. Notifications
If you allow notifications, Elo-X may send notifications when a match needs your review or confirmation and may update the App icon badge. Notification delivery is provided as a convenience and is not guaranteed to be timely or uninterrupted. You can disable notifications or lock-screen previews in your device settings at any time without losing access to the App.
9. Service Availability and Changes
We may maintain, update, add, change, or discontinue features to keep Elo-X secure, reliable, and useful. We do not guarantee that the App or every feature will always be available or free from errors. Where practical and required by law, we will give reasonable notice of a material change that negatively affects your use of the service. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under mandatory consumer law.
10. Intellectual Property
All content, design, code, and trademarks associated with Elo-X are the property of Bhan AS or its licensors. Nothing in these Terms grants you any rights to our intellectual property beyond the limited right to use the App as described herein.
11. Suspension and Termination
We may restrict, suspend, or terminate an account if the user materially or repeatedly violates these Terms, or where we reasonably believe action is necessary to protect users or the App, investigate abuse, or comply with law. Where appropriate and legally permitted, we will explain the reason and give the user an opportunity to respond. You may delete your account at any time through the App's account deletion feature or by contacting us at support@bhan.no. When an account is terminated, the right to use it ends, subject to any rights that must remain available under applicable law.
12. Disclaimers
Elo-X is intended for entertainment and informal competition. Ratings, rankings, user-submitted results, and other user content may be incomplete or incorrect and should not be relied on for professional, financial, or safety-critical decisions. To the extent permitted by law, the App is provided as available, and we do not promise uninterrupted or error-free operation. Mandatory consumer guarantees remain unaffected.
13. Limitation of Liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including your rights under mandatory consumer law. To the extent permitted by law, Bhan AS is not responsible for indirect or unforeseeable loss, or for loss caused by inaccurate user-submitted content, misuse of the App, or circumstances outside our reasonable control.
14. Optional Analytics and Crash Reports
Usage analytics and crash-report sharing are optional and controlled separately in Account settings, as described in the Privacy Policy. Accepting these Terms or acknowledging the Privacy Policy does not enable either feature or replace your existing permission choices. Optional device location and feedback image submission are separate choices described in the Privacy Policy. Declining or withdrawing these optional choices does not prevent you from using Elo-X.
15. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide notice through the App, by email, or by another appropriate method, and provide advance notice where required by law. We may require you to explicitly accept the updated Terms before continuing to use the App. If you do not accept them, you must stop using the App and may delete your account.
16. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by Norwegian law. If you are a consumer, you also retain the protection of mandatory law in the country where you live. Please contact us first so we can try to resolve a dispute. Either party may bring a claim before any court that has jurisdiction under applicable law.
17. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, that provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
