Ratings

How your Elo-X rating works.

Your rating is an estimate based on your confirmed results and the players you face. It changes as you play.

More than a win count.

Elo-X uses Glicko-2, a rating system that considers the result, your opponents’ ratings, and how certain those ratings are. New ratings start at 1500; that is a starting point, rather than a judgement of your ability.

Why each match changes it differently.

A win against a higher-rated opponent generally raises your rating more than a win against a lower-rated opponent, with other factors equal. Ratings with more uncertainty can move more. There isn’t a fixed number of points for every win or loss.

When you play in teams.

In team matches, the calculation uses the average ratings of the players on each side. Each player’s rating is then updated using the result and their own rating uncertainty.

Separate formats, separate ratings.

Your ratings are kept separately for different activity variants and group competitions. A Singles result doesn’t change your Doubles rating. For supported standard-activity matches, enable Count as Official in your group to let newly created matches count towards both ratings once confirmed. Existing matches are unchanged.

Rating and leaderboard position.

Your rating is the estimate; your position compares it with the other eligible players on a leaderboard. A rating stays provisional until Elo-X has enough confirmed games against different opponents and enough confidence in the estimate.
